A housing project at Aireys inlet has been given the go ahead by surf coast council.
Not-for-profit group Housing Choices Australia will be leased land on Fraser Drive to develop social and affordable housing.
The group will pay council a lease fee of one dollar a year for the 50 year lease.
According to the council’s website, the land being used is valued at $3.5M, with the annual rental revenue from the existing social housing is approximately $61,600.
“There is much evidence to suggest there is significant need for social and affordable housing in our shire,” the website says.
“We have heard from key workers, families, women and older residents struggling to stay in their communities due to a lack of affordable housing.”
