Trains will sit idle on the morning of January 25 as rail workers strike over pay and conditions [GEELONG BROADCASTERS].

Commuters are being warned of big disruptions to V/Line services this morning, with Geelong passengers advised to work from home.

No trains will be running until 7am due to industrial action.

Andrew Crook from the Department of Transport and Planning warned of delays when services resume around 8am.

“This will have a significant knock-on effect for the rest of the morning as staff and trains get back into position for the normal timetable,” he said.

There have been a very limited number of buses running for essential journeys during the action, but they will not be stopping at Metro train stations.

The Rail Bus and Tram Union has blamed V/Line for its non-driving staff taking action, saying the authority has failed to address employees’ concerns.

The RBTU says it told V/Line a week ago it was ready to negotiate, and will continue to push for job security, work/life balance and fairness for all staff.

V/Line CEO Matt Carrick said they had been negotiating with the union and employee representatives in good faith.

“We’ll continue to work with the union to deliver excellent employment conditions for our workforce and a great service for our passengers,” he said.

” We will work hard to minimise the impacts of disruption on passengers.”
