A Lara man has been fined for burning industrial waste.
A fire was found by the EPA at a property at Gerringhap – around an hour after he was warned that it was an offence.

It also came a month after the man had been given an official warning, according to the EPA.

EPA Southwest Regional Manager Martha-Rose Loughnane said it was a disappointing outcome, especially with the fire causing thick smoke.

“The individual was given clear advice that burning industrial waste is an offence and afforded the opportunity to comply, only for our officers to return and see it happen again, there’s no excuse for that,” she said.

“Burning this kind of waste creates an unacceptable risk to air quality, and the resulting ash is toxic, contaminating soil and potentially entering waterways.”
