Life Savers ready for busy day

Anyone heading to the beach to cool down in today’s heat is being urged to go to patrolled locations.

Life Saving Victoria is increasing paid lifeguard services at several locations to keep the public safe.

It warns drownings and other water-related incidents tend to significantly increase during heatwaves.

Major factors include swimming at unpatrolled locations, kids not being supervised and extreme heat

Patrolled locations in our region include Geelong’s waterfront, Torquay and Ocean Grove.

Meantime, swimmers at Lorne beach were evacuated from the water on Tuesday afternoon, following a shark sighting in the area.

Lieguards spotted a 4m Great White Shark just after 1pm.
