Local police crackdown on illegal parking

Local police have cracked down on those parking illegally at the Geelong Train Station, with CBD parking a premium as more people start to choose public transport.

Geelong Highway Patrol said it had issued over 50 tickets to those parking illegally on Monday alone, after police received multiple complaints about illegal parking.

“Victoria Police are aware that parking is an issue around Geelong CBD due to the growing population,” a Geelong Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

“However on multiple occasions Police have been called to assist with moving illegally parked vehicles that have blocked in those who have done the right thing.”

The state government revealed a fortnight ago that V/Line has been experiencing its busiest period on record, with well over 2 million passengers using the regional service in March.

It comes following the introduction of a regional fare cap one year ago, seeing travellers pay a maximum fare of $10.60.
