Locals urged to be ‘Roadwise’ this Christmas

Geelong and Surf Coast police are taking part in a statewide road safety blitz over Christmas and New Year.

Operation Roadwise kicked off at midnight and will run six-days longer this year to January 1.

Two-hundred and 80 people have died on the state’s roads in 2023, 48 more than this time last year.

Eleven people have died on Greater Geelong’s roads, two of those deaths on Monday in North Shore and Norlane.

While the Surf Coast has recorded two deaths this year.

Officers are warning they will be targeting offences including drink and drug driving, speeding and mobile use.
