Lorne Hoodie’s take flight

The ground nesting Hooded Plover is highly susceptible to disturbance, particularly dogs (GREAT OCEAN ROAD COAST & PARKS AUTHORITY).

Two endangered Hooded Plover chicks at Lorne Beach have fledged.

Authorities have taken out the temporary exclusion zone around the nests at the spit end of the beach near Cypress lane.

A fenced off area still remains, so that the threatened birds have the best chance at development.

The area where the fledged Hooded Plover’s are and authorities are urging people to avoid (GORCAPA).

Beach goers and dog owners are being encouraged to keep their distance from the area, or to walk along the waters edge when passing through.

There are 11 recognised breeding zones for the Hooded Plover between Point Impossible and Marengo.
