Geelong council crews are removing a makeshift bike jump in Armstrong Creek.
The jump is on Creekward Drive, and Council CEO Ali Wastie said the city would never compromise on putting safety first.
“Bike jumps pose serious safety risks and are often located in hard-to-reach areas that are extremely challenging for first responders to access in an emergency,” Ms Wastie said.
“They also cause significant environmental damage to sensitive areas.”
“We have no choice but to remove illegal bike jumps as the safety risk is just too great.
“The process is extremely expensive for ratepayers, and it takes teams away from more meaningful work in the community.”
Pedestrian access at the nearby path is not impacted.
