A man has been arrested and police are searching for a second offender over a pursuit that started in Wyndham.
Officers saw a Hyundai i30 with stolen number plates on Point Cook Road in Point Cook around 9.30pm Monday.
Police say they tried to intercept the car when it sped off.
The police helicopter followed the vehicle, which allegedly reached speeds of up to 160km/h through suburbs including Point Cook and Laverton North.
Stop sticks were used on the car, and the occupants ran off.
A 28-year-old man was arrested after being found trying to hide in a nearby creek.
He has been charged with various offences including dangerous driving and car theft, and bailed to face court in August.
