A Werribee man has allegedly been caught driving at excessive speed with his teenage son in the passenger seat.
Police say they spotted the 42-year-old driving at a speed of 173km/h in a 100km/h speed zone in Balliang East on Friday night.
Highway Patrol police say they were conducting mobile speed detection duties east-bound on Ballan Road, when they caught the man at about 6.30pm.

He was also travelling with his 14-year-old son in the passenger seat and is expected to face court on charges of exceeding the speed limit and speed dangerous.
His VW Golf was impounded at a cost $1425 for 30 days.
