A Wendouree man has been charged after allegedly stealing a car from Torquay, which was used to ram two police cars near Ballarat on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old was the alleged driver of the Ford Falcon, which officers tried to intercept in Mount Clear when they spotted it heading into a car wash around 8.50pm.
Police checks revealed the Ford was allegedly stolen from Torquay in September last year and was bearing false registration plates.
Officers then parked two cars either side of the car wash with their lights and sirens on, when the driver allegedly started ramming both police vehicles.
Two people inside the car were arrested at the scene, while the driver fled on foot but was arrested nearby.
Police say three officers were injured during the incident, while they also reportedly found a homemade shot gun in the car.
The alleged driver was taken to hospital under police guard and has since been charged with several offences.
He has been remanded to face Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on 18 July.
A 43-year-old Eureka man and a 35-year-old Eureka woman who were also in the car, have been released pending further enquiries.
