A man will spend at least six years and a month behind bars over a carjacking in Norlane.
The man threatened a 75-year-old man with a homemade gun and stole his car in February last year.
The man last month pleaded guilty to aggravated carjacking, as well as charges including using a firearm as a prohibited person and two counts of common law assault.
The man was later shot by police after he pointed the gun at them when his attempts to escape were prevented, according to the Geelong Advertiser.
He was jailed for more than eight years with a non-parole of six years and a month.
The man has already spent more than a year in jail which will reckoned as timed served.
