Geelong locals are being urged to help the region look at mental health across the region.
Council is establishing a social inclusion action group, looking at social connection and promoting mental wellbeing across the region.
“The group will identify local needs, review existing initiatives, and address gaps related to social inclusion,” a council release said.
“Members will support and test initiatives that prevent exclusion and encourage participation within the community.
“Decisions on how funding from the Social Inclusion Investment Fund will be spent will be made by the action group, allowing members to take ownership of activities and priorities.”
Mayor Stretch Kontelj says council wanted to help support locals through their challenges.
“Unfortunately, 25 per cent of our community reported feeling lonely in our Geelong Preventative Health Survey, with much higher levels for people with disability, young people, LGBTIQA+ individuals and single parents,” Mayor Kontelj said.
“We need people of all backgrounds to use their insights and experiences to help address the needs of those who may be more likely to experience social exclusion or isolation.
“If you, or someone you know, wants to make lasting and meaningful change, please consider applying.”
Expressions of interest are open until July 31.
