Monitors appointed to local council

Municipal monitors are back at the City of Greater Geelong.

The Victorian government announced the appointments of Peter Dorling and Mark Davies to oversee the city through to the end of the year.

It released a report from previous monitors, who finished their 12-month contract in January,

They noted while the council had made progress, there was still work needed to improve governance policies, process and practices.

The monitors will work with CEO Ali Wastie to ensure improvements are fully implemented and ensure there will be stability at the council following the October 2024 local government election.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said councillors were committed to working collaboratively, while representing their community.

“I am pleased to confirm that many of the Monitors’ recommendations have already been implemented,” Cr Sullivan said.

“The City has also worked hard to improve Council’s financial position and I look forward to the release of our Draft 2024/25 Budget later this month for community consultation.”
