New homes for Marshall area

More than 15 hundred homes are set for the Marshall area.

Council moving to amend the Marshall Precinct Structure Plan, creating homes on 123 hectares of land in the area.

It will create homes for around 5000 people in the next 20 years.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said it meant expansion into an area already serviced by a train station.

“It’s rare to have a development right next to a train station,” Mayor Kontelj said.

“This is a prime opportunity for medium-to-high density residential development close to Geelong’s most important rail corridor.”

Charlemont Ward Councillor Emma Sinclair said it was essential to set up for the future.

“We can’t just build out – we also need to look for ways to build up in established suburbs with in-fill developments,” Cr Sinclair said.

“But while we need to create more housing for our future residents, we also need to protect the charm and character that makes suburbs like Marshall such cherished places to live.”
