Victoria’s latest fuel laws have kicked in, with new requirements for mandatory fuel price reporting and maximum daily prices.

As of Tuesday 10 March, local service stations must publish their prices on Servo Saver in the Service Victoria app, within 30 minutes of a change.

Businesses must submit the next day’s maximum price between 8.30am and 2pm.

Once submitted, fuel prices can’t be increased during the day, only reduced.

The news laws have kicked in at an ideal time, as fuel prices across the region are impacted by conflict in the Middle East.

As of Tuesday, unleaded prices across Geelong were largely sitting in the 186.9 to 206.9 per litre range.

Member for Lara Ella George said rushing to buy fuel isn’t the answer.

“I can understand why people do feel concerned and think that they need to go out and buy fuel,” she said.

“There’s no need to panic buy though, and this is how we can help give Victorians price certainty when they really do need it.”

The local MP said the federal government is confident there’s no shortage of supplies.

“The Australian government, as Energy Minister Chris Bowen has said, does have reserves of petrol, diesel, and jet fuel.”
