Feedback is now open on a Geelong council plan to lease land in Corio for social housing.
It is proposing to lease a vacant site on Purnell Road on the condition that any development is entirely made up of social housing properties.
The city says more than 13,000 new homes will be needed in the region by 2041 to meet demand.
There are currently over 4,500 households living in social housing in the region.
Councillor Sarah Hathway said the 2,298m2 parcel of land was in a residential area near services and businesses including the Corio Library and recreation reserve.
“This proposed lease is another step in the process of helping to support people on low incomes in Greater Geelong,” Cr Hathway said.
Locals have until September 6 to have their say.
