As the unofficial long weekend wraps up today, locals and visitors heading home are being urged to take it easy on the roads.
Operation Furlong is a Victoria-wide operation that is running until midnight tonight, after starting in the early hours of Friday.
Sergeant Jamie Davidson from the Geelong Highway Patrol warning officers would also be out and about during the day.
“With the climate and everything that’s been going on with this crazy weather the last couple of days, it’s extra important for people to leave that little bit of extra time to get to where they want to get to,” Sgt Davidson said.
“Our message is always really the same – slow down, stay off your phones, take advantage of rest breaks if you’re on longer journeys, and get to your destination safely.”
