Geelong and Surf Coast locals have been told to expect a heavy police presence on our roads, with police out and about for the long weekend.
Officers have launched Operation Arid on Friday, aimed at preventing serious injuries and fatalities.
March saw the highest number of collisions of any month in 2025, with 1600 resulting in injuries, of which 23 were fatal.
Acting Senior Sergeant Jared Chatfield from the Geelong Highway Patrol said they’ll be out across the Labour Day weekend to positively influence driver behaviour.
“We’ll be targeting speeding, impaired drivers, distraction, fatigue, seatbelts and unauthorised driving- all of these which are contributors to our road trauma,” he said.
“Police will be targeting high risk areas with a focus on major arterials, coastal holiday hotspots and travel on regional roads.”
The Surf Coast was among the regional areas recording the highest number of collisions over the Labour Day weekend last year.
