A group of protesters have taken to the foyer of Deputy PM and member for Corio Richard Marles’ Geelong office to protest Australia’s relationship with Israel.
A group of more than 10 protesters took to the foyer around 10am this morning, calling for Australia to end all diplomatic and trade ties with Israel in response to the ongoing Gaza conflict.
In a statement read in the foyer, the group claimed “…a litany of offences committed by Mr Marles and finding him guilty of war crimes.”
Spokesperson for IPAN Geelong and Vic Southwest Jaimie Jeffrey criticising the actions of Marles.
“Like anyone with an ounce of humanity, we are horrified by Israel’s bombing and starving of Palestinians,” she said.
“As Minister for Defence, Richard Marles has the power to stop the export of weapons and components that he knows will be used to commit war crimes. In fact, he has an obligation under international law to do so.
“As Deputy Prime Minister, Marles has substantial influence within the Albanese government and could initiate an end to all diplomatic and economic ties with Israel.
“We demand the imposition of sanctions on the entire state of Israel, not just two individuals.
“Australia could lead the world by imposing a trade embargo and sanctions against Israel, forcing Israel to stop the bombing and allow aid in.”
