Rain forces Avalon Raceway meet to be cancelled

Organisers have been forced to cancel tonight's meet [Avalon Raceway]

Avalon Raceway has cancelled tonight’s planned meet due to the weather.

Organiser Jeff Drew said there was heavy rain in Lara overnight, leaving the track and pit areas unfit for racing.

“The whole precinct has got water everywhere,” he said.

“It’ll be too hard to get people in and out.”

Those who pre-booked tickets will receive funds.

Mr Drew said they would now focus on this weekend.

“Our next event is Speed Week on December 30, that’s Saturday night with all the top stars coming.”

Avalon Airport officially recorded more than 21mm of rain since 9am Monday, most of that during the night when a storm hit parts of the region.

Geelong has had 11.6mm and Aireys Inlet almost 17mm.

A flood watch has been issued for the Barwon and Moorabool Rivers, with the weather bureau saying there is possible isolated minor flooding along the rivers due to the rain.

A minor flood warning is also in place for the Otway Coast.
