A man who brutally raped a young woman in Geelong’s Little Malop Street has been released from prison.

Luke Gill, 44, was jailed for 17 years over the December 2006 assault, which left even experienced police shocked and horrified.

Gill, then aged 27, frog-marched his young victim from an ATM to the Little Malop Street mall, where the vicious assault took place.

The victim, who was 22 at the time, managed to raise the alarm at a nearby 7-Eleven.

She was taken to Geelong hospital where she began her lengthy recovery.

A court was later told Gill tried to change his appearance by throwing items into the Barwon River, and using a BBQ to try to burn off his fingerprints.

He was initially jailed for 19-years with a minimum term of 14.

That was later reduced to 17-years with a non-parole period of 13-years on appeal.
