A reverse vending machine has been installed in Ocean Grove as Victoria prepares for the Container Deposit Scheme to start in November.
The machine is now in place at Kingston Village.
Others have been installed across Geelong including Newcomb and Corio.
The Victorian government says the scheme is part of its plant to overhaul the state’s waste and recycling sector, diverting materials away from landfill.
Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant said locals would be able to collect 10 cents for every eligible used drink can, bottle and carton.
“This is a great opportunity to help clean up our environment,” she said.
“[It will also help] Bellarine sporting clubs, community groups and schools to raise valuable funds through collection drives and donations.”
