Werribee Open Zoo’s rhino calf Jabulani has reached a milestone in his life, passing one tonne.
The rhino – who turned one back in August – was just 55 kilos when he was born.
But the zoo says his diet of close to 50 kilos a day has seen him sky rocket up the scales.
“Jabulani’s daily food consumption of 20 kilograms is the equivalent of around 100 big macs – but minus the fat content of a big mac – he’s on a grass diet, so a lot healthier,” keeper Lance Weldhagen said.
“Adding to that, Jabulani also treks several kilometres across the savannah each day. So, he’s definitely got his summer body happening and is ready for rolling in and sunbaking in the mud wallows.”
And if you’re wondering, at one tonne, he’s still looking like a miniature rhino.
