The beach between Bird Rock and Steps in Jan Juc has been temporarily closed as authorities deal with a potentially unstable cliff.

Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority Rangers observed several large cracks in the cliff top during a site inspection on Thursday.

Geotechnical experts will re-assess the site to assess safety controls and next steps and it’s unknown when the beach may be open again.

The Authority has confirmed the Surf Coast Walk (Bells Track) will remain open as the crack is more than five metres from the path.

Beachgoers are asked to follow signage, stay away from cliffs and stick to the established tracks above the beach.

Locals are also reminded that Demons Bluff Anglesea remains closed due to cliff safety risks.
