Anyone planning to go for a hike or bushwalk over the holidays are being urged to be careful.
The SES revealed volunteers have been called to more than 500 calls for help to access hard-to-reach patients across Victoria since the start of the year.
It says the You Yangs is one of the hotspots where people find themselves in trouble.
VICSES Bacchus Marsh Unit Controller Mick Schembri said volunteers had seen the challenge landscapes can pose to those who were underprepared..
“They’ve spent countless hours responding and supporting community members injured or incapacitated as a result,” he said.
“Understand your capabilities and take necessary precautions to ensure you can safely enjoy the natural beauty our state has to offer and limit your risk of requiring an emergency response.”
