A shark alert at Wongarra will remain in place for the next week.
It comes in response to a whale carcass in the area, with the Victorian Fisheries Authority called in to assist in clearing the area.
The increase in activity being reported 500m east of Carisbrook Falls.

“A whale carcass can attract sharks to the area and mean they are closer to the shore than normal,” the warning said.
“While it is not uncommon for sharks to be present off the Victorian coast, you should exercise additional caution in the area.”
If you see a shark while on the beach, you should call triple zero and notify authorities immediately.
