Shark warning re-issued

A fresh shark warning has been issued for the Wongarra area.

A warning has been issued back on June 30 about the possibility for an increased level of shark activity due to a whale carcass.

VicEmergency issuing a new warning on Monday urging people to stay out of the water due to the possibility of sharks closer to the shore than normal.

“A whale carcass can attract sharks to the area and mean they are closer to the shore than normal,” the warning said.

“While it is not uncommon for sharks to be present off the Victorian coast, you should exercise additional caution in the area.

“The Victorian Fisheries Authority is assisting wildlife officers and park rangers with the management of a whale carcass.”
