Geelong is turning green and gold in a move to support Australians at the Paris OIympics.

City Hall will have projections shown on Gheringhap Street, while the Catenary lights on Moorabool Street, the Geelong Carousel and trees along Eastern Beach will be lit in green gold.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said the city was proud to get involved in the action.

“I’ll be cheering extra hard for the athletes who are Geelong born-and-bred as they take on the world’s best,” Cr Sullivan Said.

“As a supporter and manager of hundreds of grounds, arenas and facilities, Council is thrilled to have played our part in their sporting development.

“Good luck to our local athletes at Paris 2024 – Greater Geelong is behind you!”

Local athletes who are in Paris for the Games including runners Mia Gross and Lauren Ryan, former Surf Coast product and now Matilda Kyra Cooney-Cross, and high jumper Joel Baden.

Angus Widdicombe will be competing in the Men’s 8 rowing, while Penny Smith is competing in the Women’s Trap.
