Suspected arson attack at police station

A local police station has been rocked by a suspected arson attack, with an unknown number of offenders still on the run.

It’s believed an accelerant was poured outside the Portarlington Police Station on Newcombe Street sometime between 10pm Thursday and 8am Friday.

Police have called it a personal attack on the force, and therefore the community.

The building, which was closed at the time with nobody inside, suffered minor damage externally and in the foyer.

The fire self-extinguished overnight.

The damage was located by police who arrived at the station on Friday morning.

It’s not yet clear how many people were involved in the offending but police said they didn’t gain access to the building.
