A total fire ban has been declared for most of Victoria for Tuesday, including the Central District which takes in Geelong and the Surf Coast.
Geelong is in for a top of 36 with showers developing.
The CFA says there will also be north to north-westerly winds before a gusty south-westerly change that moves through later in the day.
Chief Fire Officer Jason Heffernan said crews were worried the conditions could lead to a spike in the fire danger.
“We’re seeing very dry fuels across large parts of the state, and when that’s paired with low humidity, fires can start easily and spread quickly,” he said.
“Any spark under these conditions has the potential to turn into something serious, particularly ahead of gusty winds or thunderstorms.”
A Total Fire Ban means no fires can be lit in the open air at all on Tuesday.
Surf Coast Shire has already announced several council-run facilities will be closed during the TFB, including kinders and the Anglesea landfill.
The Lorne and Anglesea information centres will also be closed, while council-managed reserves are set to shut from 10am until conditions ease.
More information on the TFB can be found here.
