Torquay brewery closes immediately

A Torquay brewery has closed immediately, just three years after opening.

Sou’West Brewery based on Baines Cres was shut on Wednesday morning, with a sign on the front window saying it will be ‘closed until further notice’.

Administrators KordaMentha have been called in with the hope the brewery can find a buyer, while all staff have lost their jobs immediately.

More than a dozen independent breweries across the country have been pushed to the brink of insolvency in the past 12 months.

In the past two weeks Temple Brewing in Brunswick East and Deeds Brewing based in Glen Iris announced they will be shutting up shop.

High taxes and post-COVID trading conditions are being blamed for the mass closures in the Aussie beer scene.
