The Central district has been put under a Total Fire Ban for Wednesday 3 February.
The day has been announced as one of extreme fire danger for the region, which includes Geelong, the Surf Coast and the Bellarine.
It’s forecast to be a hot and dry day, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a top of 30 in the city.
The ban means no fire can be lit, or be allowed to remain alight, between 12:01am and 11:59pm.
CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the ban has been declared due to continued dry conditions and the current fires already threatening the state.
“Tomorrow’s conditions will make it difficult for firefighters to suppress a fire should one start,” he said.
“We know grassfires can start and spread quickly, especially on days when the Fire Danger Rating is Extreme and when dry thunderstorms are likely.
“We’re asking people to follow the strict conditions associated with the Total Fire Ban declaration and consider postponing paddock work for the day.
“Understand how the increased fire risk will impact you and ensure your fire plan covers all possible contingencies.”
