Two killed as ute is struck by train

Two people are dead after a freight train crashed into a ute at Cressy.

Police believe the ute had come to a brief stop, then entered the train line, failing to exit before the collision.

The identity of the two men is yet to be released.

Acting Sergeant Jake Andrews said it was still unclear what had happened.

“For some unknown reason at this stage it has failed to exit,” he said.

“I can’t tell you any more about them unfortunately.

“It’s tragic circumstances.”

The investigation continues.
