An upgrade of a busy Waurn Ponds street has been completed, improving conditions for road users around the train station.

The $2.1 million upgrade included line marking and pavement upgrades around Sugargum Drive and Bodega Street.

Around 11,000 vehicles use the two streets each day, with 15 per cent of those being heavy vehicles including trucks.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said the upgrades would help those accessing the station.

“The Council invests heavily in maintaining and improving our local roads, but as Geelong continues to grow, the assistance of the federal government for projects like this one makes a huge difference,” Cr Sullivan said.

“With Waurn Ponds station now so heavily used, this project was definitely needed and we are happy it’s now complete.”
