Another day of headaches for Geelong commuters, with V/Line services still unable to operate across the state.

The rail network came to a standstill on Wednesday morning, with a nationwide Telstra outage causing communication issues.

Chris Miller from Transport Victoria has explained the issue.

“V/Line communications rely on a backup satellite system in case the main radio system fails,” he said.

“Right now, that satellite system still isn’t talking to the 4G network, so the backup link’s down.

“Even though your phone works, the trains still can’t talk to each other.”

Passengers have again been asked to find another way to get to their destination on Thursday.

“There’s only a very limited coach service operating so passengers are advised not to travel on V/Line services today if possible,” Miller said.

“We really understand this is just awful, it’s really inconvenient for a lot of people. We just thank everyone for their patience as crews work to get trains back on the tracks.

“Unfortunately, no news yet on when trains will return but keep an ear on the radio, jump on transport.vic.gov.au to check for updates.”
