V/Line has confirmed an investigation into a train derailment in North Geelong.
A number of the freight train’s wagons derailed, but remained upright, on a loop used by grain trains just before midnight on Wednesday.
No injuries were reported.
Traffic managment remained in place on Separation Street across Thursday, with detours in place.
In some welcome news for commuters, the incident didn’t impact Geelong and Warrnambool train services.
A V/Line spokesperson said a full investigation will be conducted in collaboration with the freight train operator and the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator.
“We thank drivers for their patience while we worked to quickly and safely as possible to re-open the Separation Street North Geelong level crossing following an incident involving a freight train,” they said.
“Safety is our number one priority and a full investigation will be undertaken into the incident.”
