A Watch and Act has been issued for severe weather in parts of the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast [BoM]

A Watch and Act message has been issued for areas of the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast, due to severe weather.

Authorities say the severe weather may include destructive winds from this evening, with gusts of between 100km/hr-130km/hr between the Bellarine and South Australian border.

Damaging surf condition are happening in areas including Cape Otway.

While conditions may ease on this afternoon, large waves are expected to arrive late this evening and peaking on Monday morning.

Beach conditions in some areas will be dangerous, and people are being urged to stay away from the surf, cliffs and surf-exposed areas.

Locals and visitors are also being urged to take shelter and be aware of potential hazards by the severe weather.

Authorities say if conditions appear dangerous, people should stay inside.

The region has been hit by power outages over the weekend.

While most have since had their power restored, more than 400 local homes and businesses are without power in Leopold.
