A tragic number of drowning’s has led Life Saving Victoria to plead with swimmers to think harder about beach safety.
22 people across the state have drowned so far this summer, including one man at Anglesea in January another in Barwon Heads at the weekend.
LSV CEO Liam Krige says many people are getting into trouble when heading into unpatrolled waters.
“Where they aren’t getting advice from life savers that are on the beaches and perhaps aren’t aware of their own abilities when they are heading in to those dangerous conditions,” he said.
He says many are also ignoring the safety advice that is already out there.
“Prioritise water safety,” he said.
“We do want to urge all Victorians…to really make sure that they are heeding the safety advice that is out there.”
