Weather warnings hit region

Locals are being told to be aware of possible flood dangers this afternoon.

The BOM saying Otways and Barwon catchments could be at risk of flooding as the region continues to be hit with heavy rain.

The region is also under a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall.

“A low pressure system is expected to linger over eastern parts of the state during Saturday, resulting in persistent southeasterly winds and moderate to heavy falls through parts of Gippsland, and the Otways,” the BOM said in a statement.

“Conditions are expected to ease during Sunday morning as the low pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea.”

Geelong is expected to have as much as 20mm today, with close to 20mm falling yesterday.

The weather also leading to changes for the weekend – the Geelong Cricket Association cancelling round one games in response to yesterday’s rain and the remaining forecasts.
