Weeks of coastal demonstrations against gas conclude

Hundreds of people on surf boards have paddled out at the Warrnambool Breakwater on the final day of a fortnight of coastal rallies opposing Southern Ocean gas expansion.

Thousands of people marched through the streets of Ocean Grove and Apollo Bay in actions designed to capture the attention of peak crowds over the Summer holidays.

There’s mounting opposition along the coast to the expansion of gas projects in the Otway Basin, particularly large scale plans to seismic blast the ocean and floor in the search for new deposits within whale sanctuaries.

Screenings of the film Southern Blast which catalogues concerns of the practice and the areas along the coast and sea where it take place have also been held at towns along the Great Ocean Road and Bellarine.
