The A-League has been rocked by a betting scandal involving Western United.
The Tarneit based club yesterday confirming one of their players was one of two men charged in a probe into betting corruption in the league.
Police alleging the two men were involved in gambling on cards being issued by referees.
“Police will allege four matches in April and May 2025 have been the subject of player to be carded wagering manipulation.”
The club said it was aware of the situation and was fully co-operating with an investigation.
“The club is aware that one Western United player has been charged in relation to an alleged breach of sports betting guidelines,” it said.
“We take this matter seriously, condemn any actions that compromise the integrity of the game, and are co-operating fully with all relevant authorities.
“Given the nature of the investigation, we are unable to comment any further.”
Police executed warrants on Friday, with a 24-year-old West Melbourne man facing 10 changes, and a 27-year-old Kingsville man facing 16 charges.
The pair bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 31 July.
