Winter hits Geelong

A wet day has been forecast for Geelong, with up to 25mm of rain on the way on Thursday.

The majority of the rainfall is expected to land in the early-mid afternoon.

It’s on track to be our coldest day of 2026 with the city tipped to hit a top of only 12 degrees.

The Surf Coast and Bellarine are also facing the of potential sea-water flooding in low-lying coastal areas, with the Bureau of Meteorology warning tides are likely to rise well above the normal mark during the afternoon and evening tides.

Some parts of the coastal region are included in a warning for damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h, accompanied by gusts of around 90km/h.

Those winds are expected to ease later in the evening.
