A builder has been appointed to deliver the Barwon Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Built, has won the contract for the more than $500 million contract to build the facility within the University Hospital Geelong precinct.
The project will provide purpose built spaces to increase capacity, including birthing suites, additional beds, operating theatres and outpatient clinic rooms.
There will also be a new neonatal and parent care unit to allow families to stay together.
Main construction works are due to get underway later this year, and it should be finished in 2029.
Meantime, work on a new children’s emergency department at University Hospital Geelong has reached the halfway mark.
The $20 million facility includes 28 treatment spaces, waiting areas and new administration spaces.
The ED is aimed at ensuring a calm environment for local children, while helping reduce wait times and possible delays to treatment.
It should be completed later this year.
