Works are set to start this week to rebuild a stretch of road at Mount Duneed.

Horseshoe Bend Road at the Thompson Creek Bridge was badly damaged during floods in late 2022.

Surf Coast Shire has confirmed a tender has been awarded for the project, hoping to have the section of road opened for the upcoming holiday traffic.

The works include a new guardrail.

Once the peak summer period is over, the road will be closed again to allow the works to be completed by April.

Cr Rose Hodge said she understood locals were frustrated by the road closure.

“We apologise for the time this project has taken and assure you that we are focused on getting these important repair works completed as soon as possible,” Cr Hodge said.

“The repair works have been delayed for a number of reasons including an initial delay in getting the geotechnical assessment completed due to high demand following widespread flooding, as well as issues encountered during the planning and design process.”
