Councillor Preet Singh has resigned as mayor of Wyndham City Council.
Singh has been under mounting pressure in recent months following revelations he had written a character reference for a convicted child sex offender.
Singh remained in the role having initially taken a short break, and receiving a no confidence vote from his fellow councillors after returning to the role.

The decision not to stand down led to the May resignation of councillor Jennie Barrera.
In a social media post, Wyndham City confirmed Singh would remain in the role as councillor for the Bemin Ward.
Council will now hold an election for a new mayor.
