Wyndham teen charged over pier bashing

Police investigating a vicious attack on a young teenager in Melbourne’s west have charged a 14-year-old girl from Wyndham.

The incident occurred last Wednesday on a pier at Altona North. Video of the assault was picked up by media after being posted online.

It showed the 14-year-old victim being repeatedly kicked and punched as she lay defenceless on the ground.

She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police on Tuesday arrested four teenagers, three of them aged 14 and one who is 18.

The 18-year-old, from Flemington, and a 14-year-old Point Cook girl have been charged with affray, intentionally cause injury, recklessly cause injury and assault by kicking.

The woman was bailed and will face court in May, while the younger girl will appear in the children’s court at a later date.

The other girls, from St Albans and Kings Park, face similar charges and were released pending summons.
