AFL Barwon boss Ed Wilson says the club that has expressed an interest in becoming the Bellarine League’s 12th club hasn’t told its current league of its intention.
K rock Football reported last week that an unknown club had applied to join the current 10-team competition with the Surf Coast Suns.
Speaking on krockfootball.live on Saturday, Wilson said the club wants to speak to its current league’s board before the move—if approved by AFL Barwon—is announced publicly.
Wilson and the AFL Barwon Commission will meet again tomorrow morning to finalise their review of the applications they have received from Surf Coast and the mystery club.
“The move of any club between another is a lot,” he said. “And it’s something that has to be dealt with (with) a grave amount of respect, as well.
“We’ll go back to them with some feedback once the application’s finished being reviewed by the commission.
“When we’re in a position to make that announcement, we will.”
Colac and District League clubs Birregurra and Lorne, best positioned geographically to play in the Bellarine, have ruled themselves out.
All 12 Geelong and District clubs have previously committed their future to that competition, and several clubs have been contacted in recent days to confirm their intention to remain where they are.
