Geelong Amateur has struck what is likely to be the most significant recruiting blow of the Bellarine League off-season after signing star Werribee midfielder Tom Gribble.
Gribble, who won the J.J. Liston Trophy as VFL best-and-fairest twice and tied for third this year, put pen to paper as a playing assistant coach with Ammos on Monday just eight days after helping the Tigers to the grand final.
A Geelong West-St Peter’s junior who went undrafted after graduating from Talent League football with the Geelong Falcons, he played four VFL games with Geelong in 2013 while winning the Roosters’ best-and-fairest.
Gribble moved up the highway to the Tigers the following year and made 136 senior appearances.
He won his first Liston Trophy in 2019 and repeated the dose in 2022.
Gribble, who turns 29 later this month, also won two Werribee best-and-fairest awards and was selected in the VFL Team of the Year on five occasions.
