Midfielder Joe Maishman has departed Geelong Amateur after just one season, accepting an offer to join a club in the north of Victoria.

The former Werribee VFL star has signed with North Central league club St Arnaud as a playing assistant coach, and will be joined by his brother Nick.

“.. we are thrilled to welcome Joe Maishman for Season 2026 — joining us not only as a key on-field player, but also in a coaching capacity, where he will help shape both the current and future direction of our midfield,” St Arnaud said in a Facebook post.

A graduate of the Geelong Falcons Talent League program, Maishman played 87 VFL senior games for Werribee.

He returned to St Mary’s in 2022 and played in the Saints’ grand final win over Leopold that year.

Maishman joined Ammos ahead of the 2025 season and was among their best in the narrow grand final loss to Anglesea.

Also departing Queens Park are Tom Baker, who is headed for South Colac, and VAFA-bound Tom Gorell.
